Thanks to cooperation with the brand Merrell we discover new mountain paths for you!
As part of the campaign Connecting Us with the Mountains – Step Further with Merrell, in August and early September 2021 we set off together to the Sudetes along routes that we have researched and tested especially for you!
What happened during the action?
- We have marked and tested three routes in the Sudetes with a low level of difficulty, possible to overcome by people with
- movement disorders, and at the same time with high landscape values
- we organized three family trips – for the first time along selected routes
- We have developed and published maps of these routes with the necessary instructions for free use
Where did the idea for this joint action come from?
The Mountains Unite Us program organizes mountain expeditions through the Sudetes, filled with emotion, heartfelt gestures, and heroic deeds, in which people with disabilities participate together. The idea is simple, yet unique: organizing trips that entire families can participate in – a principle that applies to both people with disabilities and our volunteers.
From the very beginning of the project, we gained a growing understanding of what information our participants needed to make a decision about embarking on a mountain expedition. We discovered that there were many trails in the Sudetes that met the required parameters, even though they weren't adapted and weren't designated as routes for people with special needs. With each expedition, we also became increasingly convinced that this information needed to be shared.
From the very beginning, we've placed great emphasis on encouraging our participants to embark on independent mountain expeditions and providing them with the best possible opportunities. From our own experience, as well as from conversations with expedition participants, we know that one of the main barriers is a lack of knowledge and information about where less able-bodied individuals and those with disabilities can safely and comfortably go on mountain trips.
What did we want to achieve?
Our collaboration with the brand Merrell It started with a shared belief – the mountains are for everyone! Or at least they should be. So we decided to join forces and do it together this summer. #KrokNext towards mountains that are increasingly accessible to people with different needs.
The idea behind the campaign is to encourage people to spend time in the mountains and invite them to discover new Sudetes trails – trails that combine high landscape and natural values with suitable conditions, allowing people of all abilities to explore the mountains. We also want to #KrokNext and not only take you on adventurous mountain trips, but also provide you with accessible materials that will be useful for people who want to go to the mountains on their own (and thus ensure that the results of our activities are lasting and widely available).
What exactly did we do?
Our experience shows that a large percentage of participants who embark on a mountain hike with us eventually begin to do so on their own. We're rooting for them and want to encourage more to do the same! As part of the premiere edition of the "Mountains Connect Us" campaign – #KrokDale with Merrell, we've selected three new trails for you, some of which we haven't previously explored on our family hikes. All of these trails were then tested by our volunteers and people with disabilities. Thanks to their work, we're now inviting you to join us on family hikes!
At the same time, we've developed documentation for these routes—creating maps with descriptions, tips, and answers to frequently asked questions by participants. The maps are designed for home printing, so you can take them with you on your chosen route.
