Join us in creating the neighborhood archive of Grunwaldzki Square!

As part of the "Estate for the Climate – Archive of the Material Heritage of Grunwald Square" project, implemented as part of the National Reconstruction Plan (KPO), we are creating a neighborhood archive where we will collect and digitally share materials related to our estate. We invite you to share your memorabilia and memories to retell the story of Grunwald!

The fate of Grunwaldzki Square is surprising – it holds stories and anecdotes about the marketplace, the emergence of the academic community, and life in the estate in the early post-war years. By creating a neighborhood archive, we want to connect these diverse threads that create the mosaic of our neighborhood, and also show how it has changed over the years. Your memories and collections can become a valuable element of local heritage! Thanks to them, we can see the history of the estate through the eyes of its residents, discovering personal stories connected to the places and events that shaped the contemporary character of Grunwald. Each photograph or document carries an emotional charge, bringing us closer to the daily lives, joys, worries, and dreams of the people who live here.

Do you have photos, postcards, or other memorabilia related to the Plac Grunwaldzki estate? Write or call us!

Why do we do this?

Through the neighborhood archive, we aim to build a more complete picture of our neighborhood, giving its residents a narrative. By documenting the past together, we will create a neighborhood chronicle so that future generations have access to authentic memories and experiences. This allows us to educate about the neighborhood's history through the lens of the individual and the entire community, inspiring others to actively participate in preserving their local identity. We want new residents to have the opportunity to explore their hometown, understand its roots, and the values they can contribute to the neighborhood's future.

What materials are we looking for?

Did you attend school or university in Grunwald? Do you remember the taste of cream rolls or shopping at your favorite store? In the neighborhood archive, we want to collect various testimonies related to life in the neighborhood. These represent everyday life, events, places, and residents. We're also interested in the memories associated with these mementos—where they come from, the circumstances in which they arose or came to you, and what life events they remind you of. Each of them is an invaluable source of knowledge that will help us build a rich archive and preserve memories.

We are looking for:

  • photos of places, buildings and streets;
  • photos from family or school albums;
  • leaflets, postcards, maps, archival books;
  • letters, diaries, chronicles, newspapers, official documents;
  • films showing the city or the interiors of apartments in the estate;
  • items left behind by the German inhabitants of the estate.

What will happen to the materials you provide?

We will scan the materials and then make them available online on our website, creating a neighborhood archive for the Plac Grunwaldzki estate. We will ensure that each piece is properly secured, signed, and described. Everyone will have access to it and the ability to track the archive's development.
