The Sounds of Grunwaldzki Square

What does Plac Grunwaldzki sound like? Is it just the trams and busy streets, or perhaps also the silence, the rhythm of everyday life, and the sounds that shape the character of this neighborhood? "Sounds of Grunwald Square" is a project in which we listen together to the soundscape of Grunwald and rediscover it. After a pilot edition in 2025, we're returning with more sound walks and two unique musical events in normally inaccessible academic spaces. This is an opportunity to experience music and sound culture differently – more calmly, more intimately, and beyond the festival format.

We are implementing the project in close cooperation with Academic Radio LUZ i Wrocław University of Science and Technology and Medical University of Wrocław i Center for Medical Discovery. We were united by our curiosity about the soundscape of Grunwaldzki Square and a shared desire to organize open-air audio events that would connect the local community of Wrocław's Śródmieście district with students who spend their time in Grunwald primarily studying. We want to prove that our neighborhood is a good place for musical projects, and that campus spaces are an ideal location for open, accessible, and inspiring culture.

„"Sounds of Grunwaldzki Square" is a musical project taking place in the Plac Grunwaldzki housing estate in Wrocław, but open to the entire city. The starting point is the immediate surroundings, and we extend an invitation to all who want to experience the culture and space in which they live differently.

The idea for this series came from observing the soundscape of the estate, which sounds completely different in different places and at different times of day. For us, sound is part of the identity of Grunwaldzki Square – from the hustle and bustle of the city to the sounds of nature and the river. We want to listen to the estate with you, discuss how it influences daily life, and experience contemporary music beyond the festival format.

Sounds of Grunwaldzki Square: Hidden

In 2026, "Sounds of Grunwaldzki Square" returns with another edition, expanding on the idea of listening together to the neighborhood and discovering its less obvious sounds. This year, we are focusing even more strongly on the experience of sound as a part of everyday life and a way of experiencing the city. The project remains connected to Grunwaldzki Square, but is open to all residents of Wrocław – both those interested in music and sound culture, and those who simply want to slow down and see their surroundings from a different perspective.

This spring and summer, we'll invite you on sound walks around the estate. Together, we'll listen to the city, pay attention to sounds that are usually lost in the daily rush, and discuss how the Plac Grunwaldzki sounds in different places and at different times of day. We're interested in how we experience the spaces we live in, what gives us a sense of peace, and what creates the character and energy of the estate.

This fall, the project will move to two unique academic spaces that are not normally open to the public. They will host intimate music and sound events, designed specifically for these spaces. This year's edition is being developed in collaboration with Wrocław universities and partners involved in culture, science, and sound. As a result, "Sounds of Grunwaldzki Square" remains a neighborhood project in its nature, while also developing as an open, citywide cultural event.

Participation in all events is free of charge, but to participate you must take part in the registration process, which we announce together with the announcement of individual elements of the program.

Sounds of Grunwaldzki Square: pilot edition 2025

The pilot edition of "Sounds of Grunwaldzki Square," implemented in 2025, was the first attempt to create a project in the neighborhood dedicated to sound culture, attentive listening to the city, and experiencing music beyond the typical concert or festival format. The pilot included three events: two sound walks through the neighborhood and an intimate music event on the academic campus. The project demonstrated that Plac Grunwaldzki can be not only a place of intense activity and urban noise, but also a space for attentive listening, relaxation, and shared cultural experiences. During the walks, participants listened to the everyday sounds of the neighborhood, discussed the impact of sound and noise on well-being, and discovered less obvious elements of the local soundscape. The music event, in turn, demonstrated that academic spaces can become open meeting places for residents, students, and those interested in contemporary sound culture. An important element of the pilot project was cooperation with Academic Radio LUZ and the Wrocław University of Science and Technology, thanks to which the project developed from the very beginning as a neighborhood initiative with a city-wide character.
