The highlight of the program will be an exhibition in a shelter beneath the tenement building on Marii Skłodowskiej-Curie Street, where the artist Yuriy Biley himself lives. This previously unused shelter, located just below his apartment, comes alive thanks to his presence and creative involvement. It becomes a space of care, community, and a safe place to reflect on the relationship between place and person. The exhibition will include installations, collages, and video works. We invite you to meetings during which the artist, curators, and experts will take you on a walk through the hidden spaces beneath Grunwaldzki Square. Registration is now open – it's a chance to discover something that normally remains invisible.

The project's title refers to three different forms of shelter, and the quote from Antoni Słonimski's poem, "Somewhere further away, there is no fear. And now closer, even closer," invites us to take a closer look at what is right next to us. Both the name and the quote encourage us to explore the topic of safety in its immediate, everyday incarnation. In this spirit, a lecture will be held on November 13th at 6:00 PM at Barbara at 8B Swidnicka Street. „"About disappearing bunkers.". Stanisław Kolouszek, historian and researcher of fortifications, long-time president of the Wrocław Fortification Association, will present the history of German and communist-era bunkers and their role and presence in urban memory.
What role can culture play in building societal resilience in the face of growing threats? Panel „"Aware and Resilient: The Power of Culture in Times of Crisis"” will invite you to a discussion on the importance of civic education, solidarity, and heritage protection in difficult times. The event will take place on November 18th at Barbara and will bring together experts: Kateryna Semenyuk, an art manager and curator from Kyiv, co-founder of the Past / Future / Art Memory Culture platform, and Wiktoria Malicka from the Ossoliński National Institute, an expert with extensive experience in protecting Polish cultural heritage.
The discussion will be moderated by Paulina Maloy, coordinator of international projects and collaborations, formerly associated with the Krzyżowa Foundation, the Edith Stein House, and the Wrocław Culture Zone. This is an important meeting that will examine security not only from a military perspective but also from a social and cultural perspective. The panel will be translated into English.
The event is organized by the Wrocław Institute of Culture as part of the MagiC Carpets platform, co-financed by the Creative Europe program. Fundacja Ładne Historie is a partner of the event.
