The first two workshops in our "Return to Craft" series are behind us! The DIY plant stands turned out to be a hit, so we decided to organize an additional workshop – this time designed specifically for Deaf people. Monika Splotka will be your mentor in creating hanging plant stands, and Elżbieta Resler will help with the translation into Polish Sign Language (PJM).
We've been running the "Return to Crafts" series in partnership with the Wrocław Social Cooperative for two years now. This year, we're planning classes on creating flower stands, knitting, pottery, and a sewing workshop where we'll give your clothes a new lease on life. You don't need any hidden manual skills or tools to join us – we'll always help you take your first steps and provide all the materials.

May 10, 2:30-4:30 p.m. We invite you to a workshop on how to weave a hanging flower stand. This classic hanging flowerpot decoration gained popularity in Poland in the 1970s. It's experiencing a renaissance again, and thanks to this workshop, you'll have the opportunity to learn this fascinating art of knotting. The classes are aimed at adults, and we've designed them primarily with Deaf and hard-of-hearing individuals in mind – we'll provide Polish Sign Language interpretation during the event.
Each participant will make their own flower stand, at least 80 cm long (each of you will make your own and take it home). We will weave it using two-colored 5 mm cords, on a natural hoop. You will make the flower stands yourself, all in one class. No special skills are required – macrame is very simple!
DETAILED MEETING SCHEDULE:
- a short history of macrame;
- how to create macrame – types of strings and what to use them for;
- preparing and counting material for flower beds;
- discussion of macrame accessories – wooden and metal;
- learning 3 basic weaves;
- finishing work and tips on how to maintain it;
- where else to use your skills;
- how to recycle "drops";
- where to get the best strings.
About the presenter
– she weaves, ties, patches, and talks – or more precisely, she's a weaving and weaving instructor. She's been involved in fiber art for twenty years, since graduating from art high school with a specialization in artistic and applied fabrics. She primarily makes kilims, but she's also no stranger to other techniques. She's been leading textile and macramé workshops since 2018, where she's taught over four hundred people how to weave. She has two solo exhibitions and a series of urban performances under her belt. She loves weaving and wants to share her passion with everyone!
