Can a library be more than just a place to borrow books? Can it become a space where bonds are forged, intergenerational conversations take place, and local history is shared? These are the questions addressed by the new project "Communities: Libraries Build Micro-Communities," implemented by Tadeusz Różewicz Municipal Public Library in Wrocław, in partnership with The Nice Stories Foundation i Nowy Pafawag Cultural Center.
This project is for four Wrocław neighborhoods – Przedmieście Oławskie, Oporów, Plac Grunwaldzki, and Nowy Dwór – whose communities will be invited to join them in a journey exploring local histories, memories, photographs, stories, and literature. Residents of these neighborhoods will participate in workshops, walks, meetings, and events where books and memory will become a pretext for meeting, conversation, and collaboration.
As part of the activities, participants learn about the history of their neighborhoods, learn to document memories, and create their own projects inspired by memoirs, reportage, and photography. Seniors from our neighborhoods play a special role in the project, sharing knowledge, memories, and memorabilia, building bridges between generations.
What interesting things are planned for you as part of this project?
- Author meetings,
- Art workshops,
- Thematic lessons, both in-person and outdoors,
- Meetings of a working group of people involved in or interested in collecting memories and memory, and a discussion panel devoted to this topic.
- A promotional event that will be the culmination of the project, combining the promotion of the results of activities with creative community integration.
