The Śródmieście Cinema Cooperative is a project aimed at integrating residents of three neighboring neighborhoods: Grunwald, Nadodrze, and Ołbin. The initiative includes secret film screenings and accompanying events at various locations throughout Śródmieście. The project is led by Wrocławska Fundacja Filmowa, supported by Fundacja Ładne Historie, the House of Peace Foundation, and Stowarzyszenie Żółty Parasol and Partners.
If you want to know the schedule of this year's edition and check when, where and at what times the events take place in your area, read on.
It started in Ołbin
In 2018, Wrocławska Fundacja Filmowa, in collaboration with the Yellow Parasol and Partners Association, launched the Ołbin Cinema Cooperative project, a monthly secret cinema program where both the screening location and the title of the film remained a secret. After nearly four years of exploring the estate with secret screenings, during which we visited the former Piast Brewery, the FOSA Filmmakers Club, the "Better Tomorrow" allotment gardens, and private apartments, the neighborhood film gatherings expanded to two more neighborhoods: Grunwald and Nadodrze, replacing the titular Ołbin with Śródmieście.
The first edition of the project took place in 2022, with a total of eight events: film screenings, walks, and neighborhood events. The theme of this year's edition is "Music Connects Generations." Throughout the series, we will be screening musical films or films about important phenomena in the history of phonography. The goal is to harness the potential contained in this motto. After all, nothing unites people as effectively as the sound of music. Joint screenings in Nadodrze, Ołbin, and Grunwaldzki Square will be accompanied by musical entertainment: a film quiz, concerts, an intergenerational dance party, and karaoke!
The Grunwald edition of the Śródmieście Cinema Cooperative in 2023 is another meeting at Odra Centrum, where May 24th from 6:00 p.m. you will be able to watch „"Cold War" by Paweł Pawlikowski. A talented composer falls in love with a young member of a folk group. However, this profound love is complicated by the realities of the post-war communist bloc – this is the outline of the plot of the acclaimed film, which won Pawlikowski the Best Director award at Cannes, as well as numerous other accolades around the world. The lead roles are played by Tomasz Kot and Joanna Kulig, for whom the film launched their international careers.
