On the Trail with Merrell

During the mountain trips we organize for people with disabilities, we prove that the mountains are for everyone! In 2022, together with our partner, Merrell, we wanted to convince you that it really doesn't take much to regularly spend time in nature.

About the "Mountains Connect Us - On the Trail with Merrell" campaign„

For the fourth time, people with disabilities participated in mountain hikes in the picturesque Sudetes. As part of the "Mountains Connect Us – On the Trail with Merrell" campaign, which launched on June 19th, we marked four new mountain trails. During the hikes, we provide participants with specialized equipment and volunteer supervision.

To date, over 400 participants have taken part in over 40 trips across the Sudetes. These included both able-bodied and disabled individuals. For many, participating in these trips helped them discover a new passion, and thanks to the experience they gained, they gained the courage to pursue mountain hiking on their own!

We have also prepared a series of video tutorials, designed with outdoor enthusiasts in mind, to help prepare for expeditions. The videos cover topics such as choosing the right footwear, setting up a campsite, and properly reading a map. After conquering your first peak, the next ones won't seem so high or unreachable!

Radunia

The first trip along the new route set off on June 19th from the Tąpadło Pass around Radunia, located in the Ślęża massif. This spot is well-known in Lower Silesia, especially among the residents of Wrocław.

Good accessibility means the route attracts a large number of tourists during weekends, but most of them head for the highest peak of the massif, Ślęża (the same name as the entire massif). The trails on neighboring Radunia are less frequented, allowing for a peaceful experience surrounded by mixed forests, with views of Wielka Sowa in the foreground and the Sudetes and foothills beyond. Besides the tranquility, the gentle slope and level ground are a significant advantage.

This route is one of the few that forms a loop, so the entire hike takes place without repeating sections of the trail.

Batorowo

The next expedition starts in Batorów and finishes in Karłów, located at the foot of Szczeliniec in the Table Mountains.

We completed part of this route last year, with the Niknąca Łąka Reserve as our destination. The very low elevation gain and good surface allowed us to maintain a good reserve of energy, so we extended the trail!

The chosen route is very wide and runs almost straight, which allows for a significant spread of the group and great freedom of movement.

The Bowling Route, which serves as the return route, has a specially designated lane for wheelchairs.

Chełmiec

On the first Sunday in July, we set off for Chełmiec. The gentle slope makes it easy to traverse with a stroller. While an ambitious goal, it was completely within our reach!

At the top of the mountain, there's a lookout tower styled like a ruin, a shelter, tables, and benches. It's one of the few peaks with a flat top, making it perfect for a picnic for a large group.

The Wałbrzych Mountains are currently experiencing a boom as tourist infrastructure improves. They attract people primarily from Wrocław and the Wałbrzych metropolitan area.

Bielawska Pass Glade

We met at the Jugowska Pass in the Owl Mountains, from where we followed the blue cycling trail to the Bielawska Polana Pass. The route offers numerous viewpoints over the mountains surrounding the Kłodzko Valley, from the Table Mountains to the Śnieżnik Massif. The route is 4.5 km long each way.
