Community sponsorship is a model implemented in various countries around the world. It involves groups of five or six people living in a given city providing support for a specified period of time to people with refugee or migrant experience who arrive in their community. The project is currently being piloted in several cities in Poland, including Świdnica!

We invite those who would like to join us in this endeavor and create their own umbrella group or become part of one. Your task will be to support a selected individual or family for a period of six months – from December 2024 to May 2025.

Throughout this time, you will have the support of animators from the Ładne Historie Foundation and the Migrant Club, as well as from district and municipal institutions: Department of Health and Social Affairs of the District Office in Świdnica, the Świdnica City Hall, the Świdnica Employment Office, the Municipal Social Welfare Center, and the Świdnica Volunteer Center. Together, we want to create a friendly, supportive environment and a welcoming atmosphere for those for whom Świdnica is a new opportunity for life.

Support

The umbrella group supports a person or family with experience of forced migration in the following areas:

  • Accommodation - assistance in finding permanent housing, including searching for offers, negotiations with landlords and support with formalities.

  • Labor market – support in accessing job offers, creating a CV and preparing for job interviews.

  • Education – assistance in enrolling children in schools and gaining access to courses and training for adults.

  • Language learning - organizing access to language courses and support in learning Polish.

  • Healthcare – support in accessing healthcare, registering with a doctor and assistance in making appointments.

  • Administrative assistance – assistance in completing formalities, including contact with offices and filling out documents.

  • Material support – organizing and providing necessary resources, such as clothing, food and hygiene products. Additionally, if the group decides to do so, also financial support (e.g. conducting a collection) in the event of crisis situations regarding health, place of residence, etc.
