Another year of partnership with the Wrocław Social Cooperative has passed. Together, we organized 18 free events for the local community and a week-long celebration of the Plac Grunwaldzki Estate Festival. From celebrating the days of Grunwald, through walks around the estate and promoting crafts, to jointly discovering the secrets of vegetarian cuisine!

We value good relationships. Collaboration with our partners at the Wrocław Social Cooperative is one such example. We've completed three years of joint activities benefiting the residents of the Plac Grunwaldzki housing estate and other residents of Wrocław. Over the past twelve months, we've met with you many times – both outdoors (during picnics, walks, and workshops) and at the Center at Skłodowskiej-Curie 63a. In total, we've managed to organize 18 free events, as well as the third edition of the Plac Grunwaldzki Housing Estate Festival. These events took place from February to September this year, and all were a great success, enabling the local community to integrate, collaborate, and spend time together.

6 walking tours with the inhabitants of Grunwald

In March, April, and September, we walked around the neighborhood. This time, our guides were Grunwald residents who had participated in previous walks in the area for two years running. We learned about the importance of the Oder River in the Grunwald ecosystem and the important role of trees and fungi in urban spaces. We also learned the unique stories of places, buildings, businesses, and people from a century ago and the immediate postwar period. The walks were divided into two parts: spring and autumn:

  • Guided tour by Joanna Suchorzewska: "Once upon a time there was life - memories from Grunwald" and "Who, where and when - services and important personalities at Grunwald" (20/04 and 27/04);
  • Guided tour by Krzysztof Zaremba: "Oder and Grunwald – a surprising walk through places we supposedly know" (11/05);
  • Guided tour by Włodzimierz Kita: "Following the trail of trees and mushrooms in Grunwald" (18/05);
  • Guided tour by Piotr Kmiecik: "Between Disasters" and "Between Bridges. About Medicine in Wrocław, but Not Only There" (September 14 and 21).

8 culinary journeys with lovers of good food

We can't imagine our Center without the tastiest series at Grunwald. During two delicious semesters, we explored the cuisine of Korea and eastern Ukraine. We explored healthy recipes, including gluten-free baked goods, low-sugar sweets, and lunches perfect for school, work, and university. We savored seasonal vegetables and fruits—root vegetables, brassicas, and August tomatoes. Yum! We divided the culinary workshop into several sections:

  • Vegetarian workshops "Gluten-free? With taste!" with Dominika Józala (13/03);
  • Vegetarian workshop "Her Highness Salad!" with Marcin Dutkowski (27/03);
  • Vegetarian workshops "Korea on a plate" with Hanna Sobolewska (12/04);
  • Vegetarian workshops "Into the box - plant-based lunchbox" with belly-makers (26/04);
  • Vegan workshops "Amore pomidore" with belly-makers (21/08);
  • Vegetarian workshops "Healthy Sweets" with Dominika Józala (5.09);
  • Vegetarian workshops "At the stall" with Dominika Józala (6.09);
  • Vegetarian workshop "Eastern Ukrainian Cuisine" with Alla Latner (13/09).

Each of them is crafting an object from clay – one sculpts a figurine, another creates a bowl, and a third makes a mug. Also on the table are rollers, brushes, jars of paint, and bowls of water.

4 winter ceramics workshops for seniors

Thursdays with Crafts are becoming a tradition! The Grunwald seniors, who participated in the second installment of the crafts series, know this best. This year, we invited you to participate in ceramics classes with Zakwas Studio. Participants completed the course with a handmade plate decorated using a special sgraffito technique.

Four meetings were held as part of the series:

  • GROUP I — February 23 and March 2;
  • GROUP II - March 9 and March 16.

Third edition of the Plac Grunwaldzki Estate Festival

The end of May and the beginning of June signify one thing—the annual celebration of Grunwald's identity, history, and culture. This year, we strolled, listened to songs performed by the "Grunwald" choir, participated in outdoor ceramics workshops with Zakwas Studio, took part in a neighborhood picnic, and even played detective games with the Municipal Public Library. Over 400 people participated in the week-long Grunwald Days celebrations—we have something to be proud of!

Our cooperation with the Wrocław Social Cooperative in 2023 took place as part of a project co-financed by the Municipality of Wrocław (www.wroclaw.pl) of the project "CENTRE FOR NON-GOVERNMENTAL ORGANIZATIONS – SKŁODOWSKA-CURIE".
