Today's Grunwald Axis has a complicated history. As with much of Wrocław, Breslau's original architectural fabric was destroyed, leaving a void in its place. However, the tragedy of Kaiserstrasse stands out from the rest of the city due to the scale of the demolitions initiated by the Germans in connection with the construction of the airport during Festung Breslau, as well as the enormous number of victims who died while clearing the rubble along this single street.
„Plac Grunwaldzki – The Untold Story”" is a project in which we look together with you at how the construction of a runway between two bridges influenced the post-war, communist, and contemporary history of our neighborhood. During the project, we collect Your memories, we walk around the estate and we learn about its history. Another element of our activities are two free film screenings, which will take place in one of the most historically important buildings in Grunwaldzki Square: the main building of the Wrocław University of Science and Technology (also known as A1). Both screenings will be complemented by discussions led by cultural animator and journalist Lech Moliński, permanently associated with the Wrocław Film Foundation.
