After the summer break, we are returning to green activities in the public space of the Plac Grunwaldzki estate – this time, together with the working group initiated as part of the „Citizen Workshop – Green Plac Grunwaldzki OD NOWA” project, we invite you to a mining walk around the intersection of Górnickiego, Grunwaldzka, Ładna and Benedyktyńska streets.

On the left side of the graphic, a green background and black inscription: Green Plac Grunwaldzki, mining walk. September 16, 2022, starting at 4:30 PM. On the right, a black and white photo of a young woman and a man looking at a map of the estate.

The walk will take place on September 16 at 4:30 p.m. The meeting point is located under the transformer located at the intersection. Registration for the walk is required using the online form available here: bit.ly/ZIELONYspacerWRZESIEŃregistration.

Why did this particular point on the estate map pique our interest? This intersection has been deteriorating for years, is riddled with architectural barriers, and leaves much to be desired in terms of aesthetics. On the other hand, however, it serves as a gateway to the estate – the first open space on the edge of Ołbin and Grunwald, a worthwhile and necessary investment. In our opinion, this area is severely neglected and requires cleanup and a new, more social function.

During the first dozen or so events of the project, the working group we initiated prepared a draft version of the intersection reconstruction project, with next year's Wrocław Participatory Budget in mind, aiming to secure funding from that program for the renovation. This project was preceded by more than a dozen educational events, during which the group learned about the history and spatial conditions of Grunwald, gathered feedback from residents regarding the most important infrastructure needs in the neighborhood, their favorite spots and routes in the area, and, above all, the opportunities offered by participating in the Wrocław Participatory Budget. As a result, we developed the first proposal for a multi-stage reconstruction of one of the neighborhood's most important intersections – now it's time to discuss our idea for improving the functionality, accessibility, and aesthetics of this location with residents of the neighborhood and its immediate surroundings. Your opinions, recommendations, and suggestions will be crucial and will allow us to create a final proposal that meets the needs of as many people as possible.

The intersection of Grunwaldzka, Ładna, and Górnickiego Streets – how might it change? How could its immediate surroundings function? How could we benefit from it? We will attempt to answer these questions together during a consultation walk. This walk will allow us to see firsthand what needs to be changed and imagine the transformation this area could undergo. A working redevelopment plan will also be presented.

About the project:

„Citizen Workshop – Green Plac Grunwaldzki OD NOWA” is a two-year project implemented by Fundacja Ładne Historie thanks to the funding from Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway from the EEA Funds as part of Active Citizens Programme – Regional Fund. Its main goal is to increase the community's participation in the Plac Grunwaldzki housing estate in Wrocław in shaping the appearance and functionality of their immediate surroundings by educating a group of local leaders active in the areas of ecology and sustainable development.
