„"Play Islands" is a return to freedom and integration. The project involves the revitalization of two spaces within the Plac Grunwaldzki housing estate. Voting begins on September 23, 2022, and will last until October 10, 2022. Every resident of Wrocław can participate! Let's transform Grunwald together!
Imagine having spaces for children to play safely in your neighborhood, as well as places for relaxation, socializing, and sports activities. These are the goals of neighborhood project number 213, "Play Islands," in this year's edition of the Wrocław Participatory Budget.
Greenery, fun, exercise, rest!
A friendly neighborhood is our biggest dream. Plac Grunwaldzki is highly urbanized. The only locations for WBO projects are courtyards and city squares – which is one of the reasons for choosing the locations for this edition. Each year, we will strive for different spaces and courtyards. This year's edition includes:
- Location 1 – a yard on the Louis Pasteur Coast from number 11 to number 18. The interior will regain an attractive play area for children. It will be equipped with sports and recreational facilities, and small-scale architecture will be used for relaxation amidst greenery.
- Location 2 – Irena Sendler Square, where we will focus on revitalizing the greenery, with particular emphasis on the square's exterior. The planned restoration of a safe, carefully selected greenery border will provide protection from the hustle and bustle. Repairs to the wheelchair ramp and stairs on Łukasiewicza Street will contribute to increased accessibility of the square.
What will we win?
The investment will enable families and people of all ages (including children, of whom Grunwald is increasingly frequenting, adults, students, and seniors) to spend time outdoors in a green and aesthetically pleasing space. We will regain spaces for building local relationships within the estate. Project 213 is just the first step in our joint efforts to improve the aesthetics, functionality, and safety of Grunwald's public spaces – together, we will always be more effective in transforming the neighborhood into a welcoming one.
How to cast your vote?
Voting for this year's Wrocław Participatory Budget will run from September 23, 2022, to October 10, 2022. On the first day of voting, a simple online voting form will be available. You can find the form by clicking this link: https://www.wroclaw.pl/budzet-obywatelski-wroclaw/glosowanie-wbo-2022.
We'll also be collecting votes as part of the Plac Grunwaldzki OD NOWA Local Activity Center team in the field! On select weekends, you'll find us at key locations around the neighborhood during voting. We'll update this information so you know exactly where to find us.

We know many of you and how passionate you are about your neighborhood. We strongly encourage you to vote in the Wrocław Participatory Budget – simply convince your family, friends, and even neighbors to vote. Every vote for Project 213 – "Play Islands" – is crucial and brings us closer to improving the quality of life in our neighborhood!
Contrary to what you may think, every vote counts! As residents of the estate, we can speak out about the infrastructure needs of Grunwaldzki Square and the need for solidarity and neighborhood action to initiate them. Today, we are using the Wrocław Participatory Budget to rename the courtyard to Pasteur Square and Irena Sendler Square, and in the coming years, we will address further sections of the estate. Therefore, regardless of where in Grunwald you live, work, or study, it's worth getting involved in the vote and working as neighbors to ensure the success of the estate within the WBO. The votes of loved ones and friends from other parts of the city will also be crucial. Anyone living in Wrocław can vote, including children (in this case, a parent or guardian can assist). No city residency is required. Simply declare on the form that you live in Wrocław.
We are absolutely convinced that positive changes await us at Grunwaldzki Square – we just need to work together to achieve them.
