Time flies! Before we knew it, another six months of activities at the Plac Grunwaldzki housing estate in Wrocław had passed. Thank you for your presence and active participation in projects implemented by the Ładne Historie na Grunwaldzie Foundation – it is thanks to your support and enthusiasm that Plac Grunwaldzki OD NOWA is developing so rapidly, and our work is filled with joy and satisfaction. Taking advantage of the summer slowdown, we are presenting a summary of our Grunwald activities, always inviting you – the residents of the estate – to actively participate in shaping the Center's offerings.

For four years, we have been strengthening the social capital of Grunwald and engaging various age groups. Our Center is growing – each year, more and more people of all ages are getting involved in the neighborhood's life, integrating and spending time together during various workshops, walks, and educational, preventative, and creative events. Plac Grunwaldzki OD NOWA is a place where children and young people, adults and students at nearby universities, as well as seniors, can find something for themselves. It also includes a local partnership, through which we regularly meet and collaborate with local partners, and a volunteer program, through which people of all ages support neighborhood activities.

The Center is a combination of several programs and projects that we implement together with you every year. We want to know if you find them satisfying and interesting, what we can do better, and what we've achieved. If you are involved in activities around Grunwaldzki Square OD NOWA, we encourage you to complete the evaluation survey, where you can share your opinions, recommendations, and ideas. You can find it by clicking this link: CLICK TO VIEW FORM.

The Local Activity Center is for everyone connected with Grunwaldzki Square – neighbors, local partners, students, and those who work in Grunwald. In the first half of 2024, we organized numerous free and open events for the local community, including regular team meetings, meetings with a senior coach, memory training, neighborhood meetings, vocal classes, prevention and safety events, board game and Rummikub fan meetings, and men's circles. In total, over 100 people participated in our activities. Another crucial aspect of the CAL is the local partnership between public and private entities, for whom Plac Grunwaldzki is a place of work and development.

The Local Activity Center is the place to bring your initiatives to life! If you have a cool neighborhood initiative in mind and would like to submit your idea, you can use the online form (CLICK HERE TO VIEW THE FORM), write us an email (placgrunwaldzki@ladnehistorie.pl) or call (71) 757 15 87 / (+48) 573 815 456 – Monday to Friday from 12:00 to 17:00.

At the center, you'll also find current issues of the Wrocław Cultural Essentials and the wroclaw.pl publishing house. Remember, when you visit us, you can pick up your own free copies.

This year, we are pleased to be implementing a project dedicated to the seniors of the housing estate, with whom we have been working at Grunwaldzki Square from the very beginning. Based on their recommendations, we have expanded the CAL offering by implementing activities specifically designed for this group. The project, implemented in Świdnica and Wrocław (as part of the Lower Silesian Marshal's Office program "Lower Silesian Academy of Senior Competences"), allows us to engage seniors through a variety of activities: movement training, media education and online safety classes, psychoeducation, and prevention. As part of the project, we also supported the rehearsal of the Grunwald Choir, initiated by a resident of the senior housing estate. Since the beginning of the year, we have held over 36 events with seniors in Wrocław!

The project "Beautiful Stories of Lower Silesian Seniors 2025" is financed by the Marshal's Office of the Lower Silesian Voivodeship.

Children and youth are a group we have been working with at the Ładne Historie Foundation since our organization's inception – first in Świdnica, then in the Grunwald district of Wrocław and the Wrocław Agglomeration. In parallel to the CAL, we run the Children and Youth Development and Activity Center, which hosts regular afternoon activities for the youngest residents of the estate, Monday through Friday, and daytime activities during the winter and summer holidays. As part of this program, an intercultural group of children and youth participates in preventative, creative, and physical activity workshops, neighborhood walks, and visits to cultural, educational, and sports institutions. Children have the opportunity to explore their creativity, discover unfamiliar areas, and acquire new skills, develop interpersonal skills, and manage their emotions.

To register your child for the group, please complete the online form (CLICK HERE TO VIEW THE FORM), write us an email (marta.sobala@ladnehistorie.pl) or call (71) 757 15 87 / (+48) 573 815 456 – Monday to Friday from 12:00 to 17:00.

Our neighborhood has a unique history, which we are exploring together with its residents. It's no surprise, then, that one of the projects we are implementing in Grunwald directly concerns the history of Grunwaldzki Square and the identity associated with it. We tell the neighborhood's story by drawing on the memories of those connected to it, analyzing archival materials, and engaging the local community in activities related to the history of Breslau and Wrocław. The axis around which we created this project is Kaiserstrasse – today's Plac Grunwaldzki Street, where residential and public buildings were demolished during the Siege of Breslau to make way for a military airport. This year, we organized film screenings combined with moving discussions, workshops, and a historical walk, and we regularly publish interviews and recollections on our website (CLICK HERE TO VIEW INTERVIEWS) and columns about the history of Grunwaldzki Square (CLICK HERE TO VIEW COLUMNS).

„Plac Grunwaldzki – an untold story” is a project carried out by the Ładne Historie Foundation thanks to funding from the EVZ Foundation as part of the „local.history” program.

The building where we conduct our activities for the local community is hosted by Wrocławska Spółdzielnia Socjalna, with whom we collaborate on ongoing projects. This year, we planned 18 events of various types, of which we have already implemented 16. These included four walks, nine creative workshops, a neighborhood picnic to celebrate the Plac Grunwaldzki Neighborhood Festival with a special event at the Municipal Public Library, and three anti-burnout workshops for employees of the field team of the Municipal Social Welfare Center in Wrocław. Over 300 people participated in these workshops!

The events were carried out thanks to funding from the Municipality of Wrocław (www.wroclaw.pl) as part of the project "CENTRE FOR NON-GOVERNMENTAL ORGANIZATIONS – SKŁODOWSKA-CURIE".

Another activity we implemented in the first half of the year was a series of meetings as part of "Osiedle dla Sztuki" (Estate for Art), a project that encompassed weekend-long thematic series focusing on graphic design and its impact on the quality of life in the estate. Lectures and workshops covered both historical examples of design and its contemporary manifestations in urban spaces. Five different events were held as part of the project.

Our activities in the first half of 2024 have brought much satisfaction and joy, engaging you in various initiatives and activities. Together, we are creating a space where everyone can find something for themselves – from meetings with trainers and workshops to historical walks and educational events. We look forward to the upcoming autumn, which promises to be just as vibrant and full of exciting events. We invite all residents to actively participate in our projects and build the Center's program together.
