The "Estate for the Climate – Archive of the Material Heritage of Grunwaldzki Square" project is a pilot initiative that, in the second half of 2023, allowed us to combine our passions: the material heritage and memory associated with the Plac Grunwaldzki estate, promoting good practices related to eco-initiatives at the local level, and community archiving. Thanks to the implementation of this initiative as part of the National Reconstruction Plan, we can present to you a new version of our website, along with the long-awaited neighborhood archive!

Collecting memories and archiving are incredibly important to us, as they allow us to preserve the stories that shape our local identity. In a neighborhood where many residents visit every year only for a short time—especially students!—a sense of community becomes crucial. By exploring the past of Grunwaldzki Square together, we are creating a space that connects permanent residents with those who are just becoming part of its history. The neighborhood archive aims to help us strengthen intergenerational relationships and enable everyone connected to Grunwald to feel part of this unique community.

One of the key elements was two workshops on social archiving, held on September 24 and October 1, 2024, led by Ania Lewińska. These workshops were aimed at local researchers, activists, and members of the Ładne Historie Foundation, enhancing our skills in documenting local history.

On October 21, a family walk with Agata Iżykowska-Uszczyk took place.

The next step in the project was two events focused on eco-friendly practices and hydrobotanical cultivation, led by Ola Litorowicz and Gosia Piszczek (December 11 and 14, 2024). These meetings aimed to educate the local community about ecological solutions in cities and inspire actions that support nature in urban spaces.

We also organized an open call for residents of the estate. This initiative allows the local community to submit memories, photos, and stories related to the material heritage of Grunwaldzki Square. The invitation to contribute to the neighborhood archive has been met with great interest – the first people have already signed up and shared their materials, creating a database of valuable memories. At the same time, launching this initiative allowed us to engage with residents and actively engage them in the process of co-creating the neighborhood archive.

The project also yielded tangible digital results. By modernizing the website www.placgrunwaldzki.com, we created a new, more functional version. We hope that this new version will continue to provide you with information about the activities in the estate, its history, and its identity!

The website also hosted three columns by Michał Duda, Aleksandra Litorowicz, and Albert Miściorak. These texts explore the relationship between architecture, ecology, and local identity, emphasizing the importance of historical heritage in the context of contemporary environmental challenges.

The project is co-financed by the European Union under the European Recovery and Resilience Facility (NextGenerationEU) as part of the National Recovery Plan. #KPOdlaKultury
