We've completed several months of activities in the Wrocławska Wybrana Rodzina (Wrocław's Winning Family) project. From February to June 2026, families from Grunwaldzki Square and Ołbin benefited from various forms of support: development meetings, specialist consultations, neighborhood activities, family circles, and activities that empower children and young people to discover their own talents, needs, and abilities. Curious about this project and what's happening within it? Read on!

Wrocławska Wygrana Rodzina (Wrocław Family Win) is a project that combines work with children, youth, and parents with local community activities. It's not just about participating in individual workshops or consultations, but also about long-term support for families, building bonds, strengthening a sense of empowerment, and creating conditions for available support to best align with the real lives of project participants.

The most important aspects of these activities are relationships, presence, and consistency. Sometimes change begins with a child participating in a workshop, sometimes with a conversation with someone from our team, and sometimes with planting a few plants in the yard or sharing a cup of coffee. Wrocławska Wygrana Rodzina demonstrates that supporting families is a process composed of many small steps—educational, social, psychological, and neighborly—that, taken together, can build a greater sense of security, empowerment, and belonging.

In recent months, we have focused, among other things, on working with a group of children and young people, supporting them in developing their interests, recognizing their strengths, and planning their next developmental steps. In February, a series of "Education for Mental Health" workshops took place, and in the following months, the project team worked on individual support paths for children: extracurricular activities, courses, developmental labs, summer camps, and holiday activities. Such activities allow us to better understand each child's potential and seek out forms of support that match their interests, temperament, and family situation.

In parallel, family animation work continued. Animators maintain ongoing contact with project participants, supporting their participation in meetings and encouraging their involvement in activities carried out within the estate. A key element of this process was family circles – meetings that provided a space for conversation, building trust, and strengthening relationships between families. These meetings took place at locations such as the Edith Stein House, the Zajezdnia History Center, and Odra Centrum.

Spring also brought more neighborhood-based activities and visible neighborhood presence. In April, to celebrate Earth Day, the families participating in the project, along with the WWR team, engaged in a backyard initiative: planting greenery and tidying up a selected area. This provided an opportunity for shared action, conversation, and a strengthening of the sense that one's immediate surroundings can be changed even with small, tangible steps.

In May, families also participated in the Święto Osiedla Plac Grunwaldzki community picnic. During the neighborhood picnic, the project team prepared an entertainment stand for children and families, and some participants of the Wrocław Family Victory were involved in its creation. Such events are important because they allow families to meet with the local community in a more relaxed atmosphere, build relationships, and experience community life.

In recent months, specialized support has also been developed. Families have been able to benefit from psychological consultations, and in the spring, the project team worked to tailor this form of support to best meet the needs of participants. This is an important element of the project, as the daily challenges faced by families often require calm, individual work and collaboration between various people: parents, children, psychologists, psychiatrists, mentors, facilitators, and the MOPS team.

June, in turn, was a month of preparations for the summer holidays. The project team supported families in arranging children's participation in camps, day camps, and summer activities, while also preparing a family trip and an entertainment and workshop program for children. For many families, the holidays are a special time – one of relaxation on the one hand, and one of organizational effort on the other – so it's important for children and young people to enjoy safe, enriching, and engaging activities.

Wrocław's Family Win is also a collaboration between many individuals and institutions. Representatives of the Municipal Social Welfare Center (MOPS), non-governmental organizations, and local partners are participating in the project. In recent months, project team meetings, coalition meetings, and working discussions have been held to further develop the family support model in the local community. This ensures that the project is not isolated from the neighborhood, but is gradually becoming part of a network of places, individuals, and institutions that can support families in their daily lives.

The Wrocławska Wygrana Rodzina project is organised by the Municipality of Wrocław, implemented by the Municipal Social Welfare Centre, and supported in housing estates by experienced non-governmental organisations (Fundacja Ładne Historie, Stowarzyszenie Żółty Parasol and Partners and the Critical Education Association).
