„"Communities: Literature as a Tool for Locality" is a partnership project implemented by the Ładne Historie Foundation, the Tadeusz Różewicz Municipal Public Library in Wrocław, and the Nowy Pafawag Cultural Center as part of the "Partnership for Books 2026" program. This year's edition is a continuation of activities initiated in 2025 by the Tadeusz Różewicz Municipal Public Library in Wrocław, in which, together with the Municipal Public Library and the Nowy Pafawag Cultural Center, we co-created a program of activities around literature, locality, and reading. This year's edition is a natural continuation of those experiences and the result of further building a lasting, cross-sectoral partnership between cultural institutions and NGOs.
The project was born from the belief that books and literature are a tool for building relationships, strengthening local communities, and developing the cultural competencies of Wrocław's residents. Together, we are creating a program of activities that combines reading promotion with work focused on the memory of place, everyday stories, and the experiences of residents of various parts of the city.
ACTION PROGRAM:
The project will include workshops, author meetings, library lessons, intergenerational activities, and performative readings organized over the coming months.
„"Wspólnoteki" pursues important goals: strengthening local partnerships, expanding access to literature, and creating new, community-based forms of engagement with books. This allows literature to become a starting point for conversations about identity, memory, migration, everyday life, and neighborly relations.
The project "Communities: literature as a tool of locality" was co-financed by the Minister of Culture and National Heritage from the Culture Promotion Fund – a state special-purpose fund.
WORKING GROUP:
„"Wspólnoteki" is also the name of an informal working group formed in 2025 around the community of people involved in local memory, neighborhood narratives, and social archiving. "Wspólnoteki" creates a space for the exchange of experiences between library staff, people actively involved in social archiving and identity, cultural animators, and educators who work with the history and memory of place. The working group's meetings in 2026 are made possible thanks to the support of Center for Social Archiving within the framework activities of the Ambassadors of Social Archivism in Poland.
The group's first meeting will take place on May 20th at 6:00 PM at the Club Under the Columns. We thank them for providing the space. Wrocław Institute of Culture.
