It's good everywhere, but it's best in Grunwald – everyone who has the opportunity to live, study, or work in Wrocław's Grunwaldzki Square knows this. The local community is the strength of our neighborhood, so this May and June we invite you to celebrate the neighborhood, partnership, and community we're building with Wrocław's new residents!

This year's Grunwald celebration is driven by the thought of bridges – both literal ones, which serve as gateways to our neighborhood, and metaphorical ones, which we build between cultures and traditions. Once again, we're rediscovering Plac Grunwaldzki by walking and listening to stories about the history of this part of Wrocław, writing essays related to our neighborhood, and spending time in creative and imaginative ways. However we spend this time, the most important thing is that we do it together!

ESTATE CELEBRATION PROGRAM:

  • May 18, from 3:00 p.m. – sentimental campaign "Do you remember the cream tubes from Grunwald?"„

The festival officially opens on May 18th, and starting at 3:00 PM, we'll kick off the celebration with a sweet treat you probably remember from last year. As part of our neighborhood initiative, we'll be handing out modern-day versions of the legendary cream rolls, which were available for purchase at a small pavilion in what is now Pasaż Grunwaldzki. The roll stand itself serves as a significant reminder of the neighborhood's history – most Wrocław residents associate Plac Grunwaldzki with the ubiquitous scent of this unique dessert, so we decided to kick off our project with a shared and sensual celebration of neighborhood memories!

Where can you find tubing spots? We'll announce the full list of Grunwald's best places for a commemorative tasting shortly before the festivities begin!

  • May 19, 5:30 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. - walk "Between the bridges, part 1" - led by Maciej Wlazło
REGISTRATION: THE PARTICIPANT LIST FOR THIS WALK IS FULL.
MEETING: at the Peace Bridge on the side of the University Library.

We invite you on a unique walk through the extraordinary history and timeless architecture that connects the ancient Breslau with contemporary Wrocław. Over four centuries of the city's turbulent history span the Peace Bridge and the Zwierzyniecki Bridge. What remains of this once ambitious metropolis? How did the city rise from ruins? The buildings, sculptures, monuments, and people who built it will tell us this story.

  • May 20, 4:00 PM - 7:00 PM - Family ceramics workshops with Zakwas Studio
REGISTRATION: THE PARTICIPANT LIST FOR THIS WORKSHOP IS FULL.
WHERE: Studio Zakwas, ul. Szczytnicka 40/1B.

While it might seem that cities are far from being natural habitats, they are the only home for many animal species. One such example is the house martin (Delichon urbicum), whose presence contributes to the harmony of the urban ecosystem and improves the quality of life for people. Unfortunately, in recent years, the number of swallows and other birds inhabiting Polish cities has drastically decreased. One reason for the decline of house martins in cities is the decreasing amount of mud they use to build their nests. The Zakwas Studio team, drawing on the expertise of ornithologists, has prepared a workshop for home-made swallow nests. During the workshop, a group of participants – with the Studio's support – will create models of nests, which will then be hung on a balcony, under a window, or on a roof, encouraging swallows to return to the city.

  • May 28, 3:00-5:00 p.m. – „At the Common Table” – neighborhood brunch in the courtyard in the block between Ładna, Grunwaldzka and Reja streets
The backyard feasting never ends! On Saturday afternoon, we invite you to a community table where we'll sit down to get to know each other, discuss the future of the neighborhood, and sample delicacies prepared by local chefs.
  • June 4, 1:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m. - neighborhood family picnic on the campus of the University of Wrocław (between Szczytnicka and Benedykta Polaka streets).
NO REGISTRATION IS REQUIRED FOR THE EVENTS – each workshop, demonstration, and zone is open to the public, and participation does not require prior confirmation of attendance. The Plac Grunwaldzki estate celebration will conclude with a neighborhood picnic, to which we cordially invite all those living, studying, and working in the Plac Grunwaldzki estate! This year, thanks to the hospitality of the University of Wrocław, we will meet in a meadow located on the Grunwaldzki Campus.

There are three zones waiting for you on site:

    • CREATIVE – where you can participate in family screen printing workshops with Zuza Tokarska and cycling culture activities with Natalia Jerzak, create a Grunwald kite with Beata Kuzera, and be transported into the world of children with soap bubbles and entertainment for the youngest residents of Grunwald. In this zone, you'll also meet our favorite wheel-rolling master – Leri Papidze, who, together with the Zakwas Studio team, will once again demonstrate his incredible skills!
    • REST – where you can exchange books as part of a book swap organized by the Municipal Public Library – Branch No. 29, and read in peace (stocking up from the Book Truck – Mobile Bookstore of Secret Collections). If books and literature aren't your first choice, this zone is also a place to swap clothes and souvenirs you'd like to donate. Here, you can also take part in consultations on the renovation of Szczytnicka Street, organized by Rada Osiedla Plac Grunwaldzki, and share your use of Grunwaldzki Square with the research team from the "Citizen's Workshop – Green Plac Grunwaldzki OD NOWA" project. Above all, you can relax on deckchairs with cold drinks in hand.
    • MAIN – the centerpiece of which will be a neighborhood table where we'd like to meet you for a vegetarian lunch! We encourage you to show off your culinary skills and bring your own home-cooked meals! The picnic menu will be enriched by gifts from our good friends from "W Kontakt" and "El Gordito." The picnic will culminate in audio surprises, prepared in collaboration with the Dom Polonijny Foundation and the Fabryka Sensu Foundation!
