The mountains connect us

As part of the "Mountains Connect Us" project, we organize mountain trips for people with disabilities and their families.

Why? Because we believe the mountains are for everyone!

A story about the power of community

The mountains connect us That's why we launched the "Łąją nas górą" (Mountains Connect Us) program, which organizes mountain expeditions through the Sudetes, filled with emotion, heartfelt gestures, and heroic deeds, bringing together people with disabilities and able-bodied individuals. The idea is simple, yet unique: organizing trips that entire families can participate in – a principle that applies to both people with disabilities and our volunteers.

The mountains are a fantastic form of rehabilitation and a space for an innovative approach to the issue of respite, but not everyone can afford to explore the mountains and spend their free time this way. We, Fundacja Ładne Historie, provide a relaxed atmosphere of a mountain expedition, as well as specialized strollers and carriers and professional care: physiotherapists, mountain guides, volunteers, and a psychologist are present on the trips.. Together we travel the trails, challenging stereotypes while promoting the Sudetes' tourist routes.

An important and valuable aspect of the project is the community that forms around these activities. Shared, positive experiences result in friendships and relationships that develop beyond the mountain trails.

Knowing how beneficial a trip to the mountains is for one's physical and mental health, we encourage entire families to go out together by getting involved in our mountain volunteering program, full of positive emotions.

  • In 2022 We took part in 11 family hikes, with 79 people with disabilities participating! We covered 108.5 km of trails together! One of our most memorable trips was climbing Śnieżka, which once again proved to us that it doesn't matter whether you walk independently, with assistance, or don't walk at all – with the right people by your side, nothing is impossible! We were accompanied by 178 volunteers, who spent a total of 1,442 hours in the field!

Four of these trips were organized in partnership with Merrell as part of the "Mountains Connect Us – On the Trail with Merrell" campaign. We've also published a series of video guides designed for outdoor enthusiasts. You can find them on the following page: On the trail with Merrell

  • In 2021, we organized 11 trips, including 9 family trips and 2 trips for care and health facilities.

Together we visited Szrenica, Włodzickie Hills, Hala pod Śnieżnikiem, Andrzejówka, Niknąca Łąka, Jagodna, Bukowiec Park, Jakuszycka Glade, Wielka Sowa and Kozie Saddle.

Three of these expeditions were organised as part of the campaign #KrokNext with Merrell, during which participants and volunteers tested previously prepared maps containing all the necessary information needed by someone wishing to go to the mountains with a wheelchair user or someone with mobility issues. The maps are available for download and free use. here.

  • Year 2020 It wasn't the easiest journey, and the lack of public funding effectively hindered our travel arrangements. Fortunately, our paths crossed with the wonderful people of the Imago Foundation and the Mayday Foundation. It was also thanks to their support that our joint mountain expeditions and unforgettable experiences were possible. Thank you for your help and kind hearts. We hope our collaboration will be long and fruitful!

We are so grateful to have had the opportunity to hike in the mountains again with so many wonderful, persistent, and courageous people. Without you, this project wouldn't exist. Thank you for being here and for your willingness to explore the mountains with us.

  • In 2019 we completed the first edition of the project in the field of integration and social activation "The Mountains Connect Us", which involves organizing mountain trips for people with disabilities, their families, and their immediate surroundings. By challenging stereotypes, we have made the beautiful Sudetes accessible to those who face much greater challenges on a daily basis.

Entire families eagerly joined the project, as did entrepreneurs and ordinary people who couldn't go to the mountains for health reasons but still wanted to be part of the expeditions. The owners of a local sports center encouraged people who worked out there to volunteer, so they could use their muscles beyond the gym. A small restaurant in Świdnica prepared extra meals for all participants on one of the trips. Mrs. Maria, who couldn't participate in the trips due to health issues, donated homemade apple pancakes to the Foundation for each trip. The "The Mountains Connect Us" project sparked a positive response among the community.
